The Reverend Arthur Foy Jr., age 82, of Lumberton, NC passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 27, 1939 in Minneola (Long Island), New York to the late Arthur and Minnie Bell Foy.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Nathaniel Foy, sister Joan B. Foy Lyons, sister Teresa Eng Walker, sister-in-law, Donna Foy and his beloved son, Arthur Foy III.
He graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High School where he was a proud member of his Track and Field team, a sport he loved throughout his life. On December 18th, 1959 he married his cherished wife of 62 years, Shelby Jean Barnes. He received his B.A. from C.W. Post College, and M.Div. from Northern Illinois Theological Seminary. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming an ordained minister. He served numerous churches such as Zion Baptist Church(Youth Pastor), Olivette United Methodist Church(Senior Pastor), Yahweh Tabernacle of Deliverance Church(Founder, Senior Pastor), Piney Grove Baptist Church(Senior Pastor), First Baptist Church(Interim Pastor), Bethany Presbyterian Church(Interim Pastor). Many also knew him as a bus driver and faithful employee of FAST-Fayetteville Area System of Transit where he spent over a decade. Upon retirement from FAST, he found exceptional joy substitute teaching high school and each student he encountered has a memorable story of his to tell.
He is survived by; his loving wife, Shelby J. Foy; brother, Daniel Foy; adoring children, Serilda Foy Goodwin (Brian), Torkel Foy; caring grandchildren; Enjonae Anderson(Wayne), Brianna Goodwin, Christian Foy, Blaine Goodwin, Alexa Foy Lomax(James), Bianca Goodwin, Caleb Foy and two great-grandchildren Abigail Anderson, John Anderson; Many doting Godchildren including : Maurya Gamble(Eddie), Otis Mack, Nojena Jackson, Jarvis Pegues, Anise Fequiere and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and assorted friends.
A private Celebration Of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Lumberton with Rev. Paul Matthews officiating. A public viewing will take place immediately preceding the service from 11:30am-1:00pm.
