Norman Worley Tribute

Norman Nathaniel Worley was born on October 28, 1948 to Anna M. and the Late Rev. Napoleon Worley on the outskirts of Fairmont, NC. He was one of 8 children. Norman was also known as Nate/Nat. He was reared in a Christian home and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. On Monday, July 19, 2021 he entered into eternal rest at the East Orange Veterans Administration Medical Center in East Orange, New Jersey at the age of 72, after a brief illness.

Nate attended and graduated from Rosenwald High School. He furthered his education in the field of auto mechanics. He worked for several years at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in North Carolina as a patient transporter.

In 1968, Nate was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War, after serving two years he received an honorable discharge. He was considered a Rifle Expert and received several medals of Honor, while serving.

Nate was kind natured, hospitable, neighborly, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. With his thoughtfulness and kindness, his theme in life was “caring and sharing”. He enjoyed playing golf, chess, riding motorcycles and watching sports, he was a dedicated fan of the NY Giants and Yankees.

In 1974, Norman and Gwendolyn (Donald) were joined in holy matrimony, from this union one daughter was born Dawn Shilise Worley.

Norman is predeceased by one son, Anthony Bethea, his father, Rev. Napoleon Worley, one brother, Eddie Melvin, three sisters; Anita Rena, Miriam M. Samuel and Beverley Grice.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Worley of Roselle, NJ; two daughters, Dawn S. Worley of Colonia, NJ and Marick C. Mickens of Fairmont, NC; two sons, Nathaniel Williams (Angela) of Linden, NJ and Narome Baldwin of Fairmont, NC; his mother, Anna M. Worley, one sister, Sharon Worley and a brother, Anthony Worley (Stephanie) all of Fairmont, NC and a brother, Rev. Ricky Worley (Bertha) of Lumberton, NC; three aunts Alease Bullard, and Linda Thompson, of Fairmont, NC, and Elizabeth Fells of Arlington VA; one uncle Earnest Thompson of Fairmont NC; two brother-in-laws, Andrew Grice (Shorty) and Jeremiah Samuel, and a special friend Hal (Steve) Brown. His grandchildren, Tyrell, Ayanna, Sharies, Ashley, Shyanne, Nathaniel Jr., Shatoya, Drequan, five great grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
