Sister Lula Mae Scott McKay departed her life on November 25, 2020. She was born on April 19, 1930 in Fairmont, NC to the late John Smith and Penny Scott. She was raised in a large family in which she was the oldest of five siblings. She was very outspoken and full of life. At an early age she joined Mill Branch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Marvin Ford. After moving to Baltimore, MD in her early years she joined Peekins Square Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Yerby where she joined singing on the choir. While in Baltimore she worked and retired from the Baltimore City Public School System. She eventually moved back home to Fairmont and joined Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Sammy L. Shropshire. She enjoyed to attend Church Service, Sunday School and Bible Class.
Lula was married to John McKay who preceded her in death. To this union they had seven children. Five of her children preceded her in death, Juanita McKoy Evans, Sue Nell McKoy Mooring, Barbara Glendale McKay, Marcus McKay, and Amiel Duane McKay.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Alice McKoy of Lumberton and Patricia McKay of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Dorothy Jamison and Betty Williams of the home, one sister-in-law, Minnie Ruth McKay, five grandchildren, eleven great grands and six great great grands , a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves and extended family Jerome McKellar (Nephew), Alice Faye Baldwin (Niece), Pattie Baldwin (Niece), Julie Watson and Margie Jackson (Sisters), Keith Baker and Corie Leak (Nephews) and Etta Wright and Virginia Bowman (Sisters).
