Ms. Shirley Crawford

     Ms. Shirley Crawford, 80 of New York passed away April 3, 2021.  Shirley J. Crawford was born on March 20, 1941 to the late Daniel Simp and Jessie Stackhouse in Fairmont, NC. The youngest girl of 12 siblings, she attended Rosenwald Elementary School, where she later met and married the late James C. Crawford. Out of this union four children were born, Dean (Deceased), Jean, Garrett (Deceased) and Broderick Crawford, Sr. In the late 1960's, Shirley moved to New York where she continued her education. She attended school to become a certified Home Health Aid where she loved to take care of people. In 1986 she joined the NYPD traffic division where she served 35 years on the force until her retirement.

     Shirley was a member of Mt. Zion Chapter #59 OES Prince Hall and Nazarene Court #2 Order of Cyrenes. Known as Mama Crawford to many, she had the biggest heart and was the one that everybody could count on, for anything.

     On April 3, 2021 GOD sent a band of angles to take her home to be Him in heaven. Her signifciant other of 50 years, Sam Smith also been called home where they both now rest peacefully together. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Jean Felix (William) and son, Roderick Crawford Sr. (Darice), stepdaughters, Verdella Smith of Brooklyn, NY, Celest Crawford of Hamden, CT, Trina Crawford of Whiteville, NC, stepson, Gregory Malloy of Pennsylvania and Laura Stackhouse (daughter/niece) of Chesapeake, VA, eighteen grand children, twenty one great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, brothers, Simp Jr. Stackhouse (Elizabeth) of Portsmouth, VA, Jimmy Stackhouse (Betty) of Fairmont, NC sisters, Annie Durant of Fairmont, NC and Evelyn Joyce of Chesapeake, Va, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly.
