MARY LOU PHARR, affectionately known as “Marr-Lou,” the daughter of the late Rena Baker Evans and Jack Evans, was born on January 4, 1953, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and resided for over 40 years. She departed on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at her home in Lumberton, NC.
Despite her many challenges and adversities throughout her life, Mary was a very gentle, caring, and energetic person full of love and laughter. She attended and graduated from Mecklenburg County Public School System. Mary enjoyed reading, writing, crossword puzzles, and helping others. After relocating to Lumberton, Mary was a faithful member of Faith Temple Holiness Church, where she served tirelessly on the usher board for over 20 years. She was dedicated to her usher job and always greeted everyone who entered the church with a smile.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories of her adopted family Charlie Govan, Jr. and the late Ethel Lee Baker Govan of Lumberton, Cathy Govan (caregiver) (Jarleshia, Drafton) of Lumberton, Michael Govan, Sr. (Angela, Kobe, Jada, Destinee, Jayla) of Lumberton, An’tonia Govan (caregiver) (Elijahwan, Jasmyne-Lee) of Lumberton, and Darrell Dudley-Govan of Hyattsville, Maryland. Her niece, Kisha Owens of Lumberton, N.C., the daughter of the late Carletha Owens (sister), and a host of cousins from the Baker, Murphy, Evans, and Owens family tree throughout North and South Carolina; as well as the host of friends who lives she has impacted throughout the years.
