It's with sadness and sorrow we officially announce the transition Of Ms. Glenda Joyce Gilchrist 84 of Lumberton.
Ms. Glenda Joyce Gilchrist was born on September 17, 1941 to the late Howard Barnes and Jessie Barnes. She departed this earthly life on November 30, 2025 at Harborview Nursing Home in Lumberton, NC. She was 84 years old.
Glenda was a woman of warmth, strength, gentle humor, and a joyful spirit. She loved to dance, to laugh and to brighten every room she entered. Her kindness and love touched everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy Gilchrist, her grandson, Mikey Lamar Ford, and her siblings, Frank, Stephanie, Wade and Eddie Barnes.
Glenda was a devoted mother to Wayne E., Shonia, and Kimberly Gilchrist; a proud grandmother to Shatiece Castillon-Hard, Shontell Whitted, Tronell G. Dunbar, Jaclyn McNeill, Tamara Mosley, and Caprice Stover; Aquilavashti (Nina) Jordan and a loving great-grandmother of twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her tremendous joy.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her sibling, Shelby Foy, Anthony (Carol) Barnes, Marcia Rose Nealy, Patricia Ann Barnes, Belton (Archie) Barnes, Cassandra Barnes, Lisa Carol Barnes- Hecker, and Rita Faye Watson, a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Glenda’s Legacy is one of love, laughter, family, and faith. Her memory will remain a blessing and a light to all who knew her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
