Ms. Genora Richardson

     Genora Richardson was called home to rest to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by family and friends on Friday November 3, 2023, in Hackensack, New Jersey.

     Genora joined Greater Bethel Pentecostal Church, formerly “Little Bethel” under the founder, Pastor Henry, and present Pastor Timothy Daugett with more than 60 years of faithful service. Genora was a Deaconess and Mother of the Church, holding other in-charge positions such as Pastor Aid, Noon Day Prayer, Church Greeter, Usher, Event Organizer such as Friends and family, Women in White, Pastor Anniversary, Black History Month, and fundraisers to name a few. Genora took care of the church property, ensuring the outside and inside were properly groomed and spic and span clean. She was very dedicated to her church ministry and was caring, sweet, fun, and all-around, well-loved. Genora loved to dress up and always presented herself as a faithful woman of God. Her favorite song was "He Never Failed Me Yet". Her joy was in service to the Lord. Genora loved her home and enjoyed all the many pictures, gifts, and knickknacks she collected over the years and displayed throughout her home. She loved receiving visits from her family and especially attending the Townsend yearly family reunion. The Townsend Family Reunion was an event that Genora looked forward to every year, as she loved spending time with her family dearly. Genora united in Holy Matrimony to Franklin Richardson and, from this union, was blessed with two sons, Randy and Tommy Kay, whom both loved dearly.

     Genora was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Emory James Townsend and Rollie Nicholos Townsend: And her son, Tommy Kay Richardson. Eleven brothers also preceded her in death: Jack Townsend (Martha), Roosevelt Townsend (Reva), Willie Townsend (Louise), Booker Townsend (Lena), Laddie Townsend, Emory Townsend (Anna Margaret), David Townsend (Vernice), Ulysses Townsend (Ada Mae), Gilbert Townsend, Hilbert Townsend, and her baby brother Levoid Townsend, who passed away less than 24 hours apart after her death. Five sisters preceded her in death: Ella Jane (Paul Sr.), Bessie Smith (Ben), Arnetha McDowell (Thomas “TS”), Mildred Baker (Sylvester) and Ruth Bethea (James).

     Genora is survived by her son, Robert Randy Richardson of Fairmont, NC. Two Grandsons, Robert Richardson and Michael Richardson. One Granddaughter, Lechett Anthony, and four Great-Grandchildren, Camdyn Richardson, Jane Prince, Shanell Prince, and Aniyah Prince. Two Sisters-in-law, Effie Lee of Lumberton, NC, and Earnestine Townsend of Virginia Beach, VA., and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Niece, Billie K. McDowell Martin, cared for her during the last days of her sickness. Mrs. Muriel Wells, whom she loved to visit at her home every Thursday. She leaves friends, including two close friends, Ann Allen and Phyllis Woodford.
