Ms. Geneva Watkins Tribute

Geneva Watkins, dedicated mother, departed this life to her heavenly home on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 5:15 am with her loving granddaughter Koffee Watkins by her side.

Born February 21, 1934, in Fairmont, North Carolina, Geneva was one of 13 children born to Aldine and Mary Elizabeth Lennon. Geneva migrated to Philadelphia, PA and was married to the late Willie C. Watkins Sr. and their union was blessed with 3 children- Theresa, Tammy, and Willie C. Watkins Jr. She next moved to Trenton, New Jersey and worked in a hospital while attending nursing school and then working for Dr. Williams. Geneva changed career paths which then bought her to work for the Royal Engineering Company in Trenton, NJ, retiring after 36 years of service.  Geneva was the union president of AFILCIO local union number 422 in Trenton, which is a testament to how  she worked to help people.  She was generous with her time, hospitality and advice.  Geneva was active and devoted to Union Baptist Church of Trenton, NJ for the duration of her residency in NJ. Upon returning home to North Carolina, she became a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Geneva was predeceased by her parents, Aldine and Mary Lizzie Lennon; Fiancé Agosto Silverto, Great granddaughter, Legacy Sania Watkins; six sisters, Gladys Harris, Carrie Harris, Maybel Atkins, Pearline Fortson, Marie Barnes, and Verda Green; and two brothers Frank and Hubbert Lennon; one Aunt Eleanor Ford-Williams, and a cousin, Virginia Ford.

Geneva was an amazing mother, wife, sibling and provider. She was a caretaker to many and loved to warm people’s hearts with her love for cooking. She had the most infectious smile that could light up a room. Her optimistic outlook on life allowed her to see the good in all people, but make no mistake, she did not tolerate any “foolishness”.  Whether you called her Miss Geneva, Jake or Genk, she would always be there when you needed her. One of many of the fashionistas of the “Lennon Girls”, she loved her fabulous hats, fine jewelry and beautiful silk scarves. Geneva left an everlasting impression of love with everyone who had the honor of meeting her.

Geneva leaves to cherish precious memories her 3 children, Theresa      Watkins, Tammy Watkins, and William C. Watkins Jr.; 4 sisters, Lillie Mae Green, Evelyn James, Girthel Lennon and Jeanette Lennon; one Aunt Helen Hill; three grandchildren, Jason Watkins, Taura Watkins and Koffee     Watkins; four great grandchildren, Quinterra and Jaciana Watkins, Keeon Burke Jr., and Ka’sean Rivers; 1 great great grandson, Kayden Burke; a special niece, Linda Barnes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
