Mrs. Ellouise McDougald Powell born October 17, 1929, departed this Earth on November 9, 2020. She was born and raised in Lumberton,N.C. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Blanche McDougald. She had four siblings that preceded her in death: Theresa Thomas, Geneva Gerald, Vivian McPhatter, and William Franklin McDougald. She received her early education in the Lumberton City Schools and Red Stone High, where she graduated High School. She furthered her education at Robeson Technical Community College as a nurses aide.
Mrs. Powell married the late Deacon Pernell Powell on April 3, 1949. She affectionately loved her husband. To their union they reared six children. He preceded her in death on September 22, 2018. They were married for 69 plus years. Their union was the embodiment of black love.
At an early age, Mrs. Powell joined First Baptist Church of Lumberton. While there, she worked as an usher, choir member and the Baptist Training Union. After marriage, she moved her membership to Sandy Grove Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the Robeson County Baptist Union and served in many capacities to include: Second Vice Present , past nurse’s aide president, past president of the Deaconess Council, Missionary Circle, Former Sunday School superintendent and young Adult’s president, Sunday school teacher, Ladies’ aide, Lumber River Baptist association, Deaconess Council, Assistant Leader of the United Order of tents # 698, and participant of the Women’s Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary convention. She was very active in many religious platforms until her health declined. Mrs. Powell believed in doing all you can, as long as you can, while you can, for the up building of God’s Kingdom.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Derrick Powell. She leaves to cherish her profound memories: 3 sons, Mr Ronald Powell(the late Helen), Mr. Sammy Powell (Ivory), Russell Powell; 3 daughters, Dianne Powell (devoted caretaker until death), Vickie Martin (Orlando), Erica Striblin (Ray); Sister in-law, Madre Powell; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grand children; Devoted friends: Jesse High, Sarah Crump ,Special friends of Liberty HomeCare and Hospice Services, Veronica McLeod, Peggy Thompson, Sarah Smith, Joyce Jones, Betty Crawford and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
