Eliza Thompson was born on September 23, 1944, in Lumberton, North Carolina to her parents, Eli Thompson and Elizabeth Gilyard Thompson. She was the fifth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, James, Robert, Richard, and Elijah. As a child, she loved dancing and watching sports whether football or baseball, while in school. She received her early education in Lumberton, North Carolina, where she graduated from J.H. Hayswood High School in 1963. The family fondly remembers her attending a James Brown Concert held in the National Guard Amory.
Eliza was the proud mother of a son, she named Jeffrey S. Thompson. She was a loving and devoted mother, who took great pride and joy in the care and nurture of her son. They shared many happy and memorable moments together. She was later blessed with 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Malcolm, Lauren, Jasmyn, and Latrail. They lovingly called her “Grammy” and fondly remember her always offering love, support, sound, and solid advice. She was their rock and she was full of wisdom.
By profession, Eliza was employed by Lincoln Park Arrow Container as an Inspector. She later became a Homemaker taking care of her family. She was fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, watching western movies, and court television. She continued to be a sports enthusiast and her favorite teams were the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the Atlanta Braves. She was the family matriarch and carried a strong and bold personality. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Eliza was to love her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Elizabeth Thompson; siblings, Robert Thompson, Richard Thompson, Elijah Thompson, and Eliza Thompson.
Eliza Thompson departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on April 13, 2020, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include in her son, Jeffrey S. Thompson, Sr., and daughter in-law, Mary Thompson of Aurora, Colorado; 1 brother, James Thompson of Richmond, Virginia; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Thompson, Jr., Lauren E. Thompson both of Dallas, Texas, Jasmyn K. Hill, Malcolm J. Thompson and Latrail J. Thompson of Aurora, Colorado; 2 great grandchildren, Mishaila A. Thompson and Jamyre E. Muhammad of Aurora, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
