Ms. Diane Lewis-Powell

     Ms. Diane Lewis Powell was born July 17, 1956 to the late John L. Lewis and Lena Lewis in Lumberton NC. She transitions from her earthly life on January 23, 2022 at Duke University Hospital.

     Diane attended school both in Lumberton Nc and Washington Dc. She studied sales and distribution. She managed a Wonder Bread distribution center for eight years. She then transferred to Howard University where she became a parking manager. She moved back to Lumberton in 1997 and was employed by the King’s Learning Center until her health started to decline.

    She reestablished herself at Sandy Grove Baptist Church where she attended as a child. During her time at Sandy Grove she was an active member in several ministries, the Pinnacle of Praise dance team, I.T ministry where she served as Former chairperson. She also made sure that youth had a float for the annual Christmas parade. Diane had a loving and caring heart.

      Diane was Preceded in death by her grandparents Burnice and Olener Ballard and Lucille Lewis.  Her Father John L. Lewis Sr. her brother Laverne Lewis and Her Husband Dwight B. Powell.

     Diane Leaves to cherish her memories: Her parents Fred (stepfather) Lena Benton. Two daughters Katura Lewis Simons (Andrew Simons) of Blythewood SC, Rolanda Richardson of Lumberton NC.  Two grandson Andrew Simons III, and  Amir Simons of Blythewood SC.  Three Brothers Reginald Lewis( Vickie) of District Heights MD, John L. Lewis Jr. of Suitland MD and Michael Lewis of Lumberton NC.  One sister Cheryl Lewis of Lumberton NC.  One Best Friend for over forty years Muriel Linda Brown.  She also leaves behinds a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.
