Ms. Brenda Burnett

      Ms. Brenda Burnett was born, September 10, 1952, in Lumberton, NC and departed this earthly life December 29, 2022.

      Brenda spent the very early years in Orrum and Lumberton, NC.  Her mother, Daisy later moved to Brooklyn, New York to secure work and a better life.  It is in New York that Brenda began school there and completed her high school education at Sarah J. Hale High School in 1970.  Immediately after high school, Brenda began working for the Credit Bureau which was a very good job and worked there for several years.   In the 1980s the family decided to move back to North Carolina, with her mother coming first and buying a home, in Proctorville, NC.   Sister Geraldine soon returned, and Brenda followed later.  Brenda quickly adapted to being back in North Carolina after living in the fast pace of New York City life and quickly built a prosperous life for herself here.  She secured employment working at Temptation and Kaiser Roth Hosiery factories in Lumberton for many years and worked at Jensen Speaker Plant for a while before retiring.  

     Brenda did not have children of her own, but her nieces, nephews and great nephews were her pride and joy and dear to her heart. She made sure that Birthdays, Christmas, Graduation or any notable event was recognized for them, if for no one else. If it was just a card with a “little piece of money” as she would say, she made sure they got it.   Brenda was a private person in some respects but truly a giving and loving person when it came to family.   

     Brenda is preceded in death by her mother Daisy Burnett Richardson, maternal grandparents Melvin and Josephine Burnett, several aunts and uncles.  She leaves to cherish her memories, her sisters Geraldine Richardson McMillian, Raleigh, NC, Shirley Richardson Baker, Virginia Beach, VA, Mary Mosby, and Joyce Richardson, Chicago, IL, Christine Williams, Pennsylvania.  Brothers Jimmy Richardson (Linda), Maxton, NC, Johnny Richardson, Newark, New Jersey.  Special cousins that have been there for her through thick and thin over the years. Martha McRae and Francis Burnett of Fairmont, NC, William (Pop) Campbell (Rose), Proctorville, NC, made sure she had transportation to Drs. appointments or wherever she needed to go and made sure she was included in family gatherings on holidays or just because they had cooked something good, and wanted to share.  One Aunt, Ms. Modestine Burnett of Proctorville, NC, A host of cousins and other close family.   A very special thank you to Mr. Charles Hammonds, Proctorville, NC, who has been an exceptional neighbor and friend, making sure her yards were well kept, providing fresh vegetables, handy work and anything else he could do to assist.
