Born on January 20, 1954, Barbara Jean Brown Simmons passed from this life into eternal life on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from a short battle with lung cancer. Giving praise to our heavenly Father for sparing her from pain and suffering and allowing her to continue to build great memories with those she loved.
Barbara Jean was one of five children of the late James Brown and Elease Poole Brown. Although her four loving brothers (James Brown, Bobby Ray Brown, Lee Grant, Kenneth Brown) proceeded her in death, she leaves behind her dear sister, Jessie French. Barbara’s time on earth, was marked by many accomplishments. In starting her own family with her first husband Raymond Simmons, they enjoyed raising their two children Kelvin Brown and Temea Simmons-Collins (Christopher). Barbara Jean leaves many fond memories and special life lessons to be cherished by her children, nine grandchildren (Ciera Stewart, Asya Brown, Jordan Brown, Alaya Collins, Kelvin Brown, Kamerin Collins, Kayla Collins, Tylek Brown, and Joshua Brown), and two great grandchildren (Carter Weeks and Ayla Brown). Barbara Jean also leaves behind a host of other family members and close friends who will dearly miss sharing special moments with her and listening to her words of wisdom like, “Easy Come, Easy Go”, “It Is What It Is”, “To Each Its Own”, “One Day At A Time”, “Enjoy Your Things Now Because You Can’t Take It With You”.
Outside of spending quality time with family and friends, there are many things that Barbara Jean enjoyed, such as the soap operas, Young and the Restless and Bold and Beautiful. Her favorite color was blue; favorite specialty food was crabs, and favorite dessert was pineapple upside down cake. Barbara enjoyed nursing plants and listening to the oldie but goodie gospel and R&B songs. Her favorite songs were: “If It Wasn’t For the Lord (What Would I Do)” and “I Know the Lord Will Fix It”.
