Ms. Alma Joyce Thompson

     Ms. Alma Joyce Thompson, 74 of Fairmont passed away August 20, 2022. 

    Alma Joyce Thompson (Goo Goo) was born on October 29, 1947 in Jonesville, NC to the late Earline Nelson and Lieutenant Thompson.

     She graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1966. She was well known in Fairmont and she was in good spirit. She loved to cook and feed everyone that came by her house. Joyce enjoyed sitting on the porch, laughing and talking on the phone and speaking to everyone that came by. She never met a stranger. She was forever spoiling somebody child with a piece of candy. She worked at West Point in Elizabethtown, NC for 19 years as a Knitter. She then left and started working at West Point in Lumberton, NC and Smiths Cleaners in Lumberton, NC.

      She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lillian Thompson and her stepmother, Barbara Lee Faulk Thompson, her two sisters, Mary Lou Thompson and Jackalean Campbell and her brother, Larry Pittman.

     She leaves to cherish her memories to her son’s, George (Butch) Thompson (Kim Hayes) of Fairmont and Jamell Govan of the home, her daughter, Shanell Govan (Shay) (Devin Leggett) of Fairmont, NC, God daughter, Dorrenna Gilchrist of New York, six grandchildren, Tatianna McQueen of Fairmont, NC, D’angelo Pope of Charlotte, NC, Aniya Govan of Fairmont, NC, Coolidge Thompson of Fairmont, NC and Ayden Leggett of Fairmont, NC, two great grandchildren, D’Angelo Jr. and Jordan Pope of Charlotte, NC, two aunts, Cleo Martin of White Plains, NY and Lillian Lane of Lumberton, NC, one uncle, James Lane (Eva) of Lumberton, NC, a brother in law, William Campbell of Orrum, NC, nieces, Shelia Sy of Lumberton, NC, Andrea Campbell of Lumberton, NC, nephews, Andrew Campbell and Glenn Campbell of Lumberton, NC, and Tyrone Campbell (Susan) of Wisconsin, great nephews, Raymond McBryde of St. Pauls, NC, Ryan Gaddy and Malcolm Gaddy of Lumberton, NC, Tevin McBryde of Fairmont, NC and Jaclyn McNeill of Hope Mills, NC, a special cousin, Terrance Thompson special friends, Winnie Purdie of Dublin, NC, Jean Stackhouse, Rev. Vista Jones and Maxine Jordan all of Fairmont, NC, Rose Campbell of Orrum, NC, Helen Welch of Fairmont, NC, and a host of other relatives and friends.
