Mrs. Ruby Lee Johnson

     Ruby Lee Johnson was born in Robeson County, North Carolina, to the Late Richard and Doretha Johnson on June 4, 1938. She peacefully and quietly departed this life on July 13, 2024, at the great age of 86 years old.

     Ruby received her education from the Proctorville, North Carolina School system. Upon graduation, Ruby relocated to Philadelphia, PA, to explore the city life. She later returned and settled back in Fairmont, NC. Where she worked as a textile worker for many years before pursuing her passion for cooking. Ruby’s passion allowed her to work for Coca-Cola Classic Foods and Greenbrier Health Care for several years, where she fed many people. Upon retirement, Ruby decided she wasn’t done yet. She went on to become a daycare provider.

    Ruby was a devoted member of Grace Fellowship under the leadership of the late Bishop Charles McDowell. She was a faithful member and loved her church. She served as an usher for many years.

     Ruby was an active member of The Black Explosions and the Fairmont Social Club. Ruby enjoyed shopping, taking trips to Atlantic City, and always stopped and enjoyed a good meal during her outings. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. Especially, with her children and grandchildren, and in her later years enjoyed the smiles and comfort of her great-grandchildren. Ruby’s house was always the hangout place for her family and friends, it was a haven where everyone felt safe and welcomed. Her feisty personality and caring soul made her unforgettable and left her mark on everyone she encountered.

     Ruby's warmth, dedication, and love for her family and community will be deeply missed.

     Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lee and Doretha Johnson; her husband, Eddie Crawford; brother, Robert Johnson; grandson, Kendrieck Johnson; sons, Richard Allen Johnson and Al Lewis; and bonus son Ricky Townsend (Catfish).

     She is survived by her daughters: Shawn Johnson McKay (Tony) of Baltimore; Kimberly Johnson of Fairmont, and Gino Stitch (Bruce) of Philadelphia. Ruby leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Shanika Johnson, LaToya McKay, Toni (Eric) Cheatham of Baltimore; Demareo Johnson ( Her Favorite), Kimaya McRae, Richard McRae of Fairmont. 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great, great-grandson. Nieces, Regina Inman of Atlanta, GA. Etta Townsend, Shirley Townsend of Fairmont. She also leaves to cherish her memory her close cousins that were more like sisters, and her extended cousin children, as well as her bonus grandson Jordan Jeffres, and son-in-love, Leon Taylor, along with a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, and her long-time caregiver Brenda Powell from the agency We care for you inc.
