Mrs. Nannie Bethea Blake, 80 of Newark, New Jersey, formally of Fairmont, passed away on November 16, 2022.
The youngest of her (14) siblings Nannie Blake was born in Robeson county,
Rowland North Carolina to her beloved mother Straudie Harley Bethea, and cherished
father Alexander Waymon Bethea November 22nd 1941. Her family later settled in
Fairmont, North Carolina where Nannie attended Gaddyville elementary school and
later graduated from Southside High School located in Robeson county, North Carolina
the year of 1960. living her infant, toddler, and most of her teenage years in North
Carolina, upon graduation Nannie moved to Morganville NJ where she met her late
Husband Auther Blake in 1960 and soon marrying him in January of 1962. Over the
span of the next seven years Nannie resided in Morganville NJ, up until 1969 when she
permanently moved to Essex county NJ, where we ultimately lived out the rest of her
life. Throughout her time in Jersey, Building up a reputation for city life, many in the
surrounding areas begin to cling on to her passionate and loving ways nicknaming her
( Mama or Bilal). With one of the biggest hearts and the brightest smiles love can buy,
Nannie was well known for her deepest affection for family; frequently traveling back
and forth to visit her hometown of fairmont over the years to come. Full of jokes and joy
Nannie could light a room up with laughter, and lift any spirit near or far. The Queen,
The Foundation, The Backbone of the Blake family; Nannie was labeled by many that
love her as Loving, Happy, sweet hearted, strong, providing, caring, and much more. In
fact she was so thoughtful most would say she never knew the word no. After 80 years
of great health November 16th 2022 god called his angel. leaving a legacy destined to
thrive and a throne to be filled, Nannie was a treasure and truly one of a kind.
Throughout the toughest of times and darkest of roads you could only see the light
Nannie. Over seeing the growth of every child from grand to great great grand Nannie
has instored wisdom upon us all. Even leading up to her last days Nannie remained true
in spirit. Full of Love, laughter, and lessons which we will forever uphold and never
forget!
Nannie was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Blake, one son Leon Blake
(Butter), One daughter Diane Blake, three grandchildren Zahir Blake, Inisti Newkirk, and
Zachariah Holmes, Mother and Father Straudie and Alexander Bethea, Nine brothers
Riley Rufus Sr., Douglas, Ralph, Robert, George, Larry, Troy, and Joshua Bethea, four
sisters Sarah Mcallister, Sallie mae Bethea, Mary Mcmillian, and Martha Lancaster
Left with the loving memories of Nannie are four devoted daughters Denise,
Delores,Regina and Rosalyn, one son Darrell Blake: 22 grandchildren, 36 great children
2 great great grandchildren Ramani and Nori-Rose Blake, Her Best-friends for many
years Dora Mcallister and Peggy Coleman in addition to a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives, friends and associates.
Visitation will be at Patty Johnson's house lot 113 41 Pinehurst Avenue Fairmont, NC.
