Mrs. Katherine (McCrimmon) Payton

Katherine Virginia (Tiny) Payton was bom August 16,
1949, in Scotland County to the late Nolia Beatrice
Farmer McCrimmon and Harry Lee McCrimmon, Sr.
She was one of five siblings bom to this union. On
January 22, 2024, around 2:30 a.m., Katherine departed
this life at WellSpan York Hospital in York, PA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Payton,
Sr., of 45 years; one grandchild, Kija Payton; two sisters,
Annie Ree Haywood, Magadlean Hill; and one brother,
Harry Lee McCrimmon, Jr.

Katherine was formerly educated at J.H. Hayswood
Elementary School and received her GED from Robeson
Technical Institute in Lumberton, NC in 1985. She was
employed at Badger Industries in Fairmont, NC as a
seamstress. She was also a homemaker who loved to
cook and feed her friends.

She joined Mt. Carmel Holiness Church in 1980 under the late pastor, Bishop D.H. McEachern,
faithful member until her health failed.

and remained While there, she served in many capacities namely: Choir Member, former
Choir Vice President, Kitchen Staff President, Sunday
School Secretary, Youth Department Member,
Beautification Committee Member, former Usher, Sick
Committee Member and whatever her hands found to do,
she did it. Katherine was also a member of the United
Pentecostal Holy Churches of America Mass Choir. 

She leaves to cherish her fond memories; one daughter,
Valarie Hans (Reginald) of Providence Forge, VA; two sons,
Everette Payton (Patricia) of Manhattan, NY and Fred
Payton, Jr. (Lacy) of York, PA; seventeen grandchildren;
one great grandchild; one brother, Alexander McCrimmon,
Sr.; one niece raised as a sister, Mae Rodgers (Wayne) of
Little Washington, NC; three sisters-in-law, Estella Wade of
Cleveland, OH, Betty McCrimmon of Red Springs, NC, and
Vinny McRae of Lumberton, NC; two brothers-in-law,
Theodore Hill, Sr. of Lumberton, NC and Otis Austin of
Albany, GA; special friends, Oliver and Drenda Andrews of
Defuniak Springs, FL. Also special to her heart was a niece,
Barbara McQueen, of Maxton, NC and Sandy McCrimmon,
Jr. (Hattie) of Laurinburg, NC. Thanks to the many who
assisted her during her time of illness, but a special “thank
you” goes out to DreQunna Gerald, Patricia McMillan,
Demetris Holmes, and Jessica Jones who made sure that she
had transportation to and from her appointments. She had
one special great great nephew, Kameron Mathis, and one
special great nephew, Mason McLean, and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
