Mr. Winford McRae

A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me.  Remember the best times, the laughter, the good life Winford lived while he was strong.

Winford McRae ascended peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father on December 6, 2022, surrounded by family at home in Carolina Lakes, Harnett County, North Carolina.  He was born in Robeson County, North Carolina on April 13, 1947, as the third child to the Late James Proctor McRae and Late Geneva McPhaul McRae.

Winford formative education begin at Proctorville School, Proctorville, North Carolina, Hilly Branch School, Lumberton, North Carolina, Southside High School, Rowland, North Carolina and Rosenwald High School, Fairmont, North Carolina. He grew up on the farm and was the fastest tobacco cropper for his father and other farmers.  His first professional career job was with the Export Tobacco Market in Fairmont, North Carolina, and Danville Virginia.  Later he went to Boston Massachusetts to work as a Furniture Finisher at the Diamond Parlor Furniture Company. For more than (30) thirty years prior to his retirement he was employed by North American Site Developers (Labor Union 1421) Boston, Massachusetts.  Winford lived by these words from his Late Aunt Ophelia McRae Chavis “save $1 out of every $10 you make”, he did just that throughout his work career.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony on July 20,1968, to Linda Lee in Roxbury, Massachusetts to this union three children were born, Denise, Shelia and Winford McRae, Jr.

A rich legacy and treasured memories are left to the mother of his children, Linda Lee McRae, two daughters Denise McRae Kafele, Carolina Lakes, Sanford, North Carolina, and Shelia McRae Haltiwanger (John) Roxbury, Massachusetts, one son Winford McRae, Jr. (Shevon), Massachusetts, his grandchildren Kwamai, Kalonji, Johnae, Jorden, Shayla, Wynter, and the late Jaylen McRae. Three brothers, Leroy McRae, Late (Patricia) Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Proctor Junior McRae (Annie Ruth), Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Lamorris McRae (Paulette), Pembroke, North Carolina, four sisters, Barbara M. Pierce (Garland) Wagram, North Carolina, Lula P. McRae, Fairmont, North Carolina, Ophelia M. Howard (Garry), and Genevieve M. Windley (Clark) all of Lumberton, North Carolina, two siblings which preceded him in death Delois and Paul McRae, three Sisters-in-law Linatte Porter, Donna Hughes, Patricia Brummitt, Boston Massachusetts, and the late Betty Brummitt one brother-in-law Terrence Lee, California, and the late Timothy Lee, eight Great-Grandchildren  and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
