Willis Leggett Jr., lovingly, known as Pumpkin, (Uncle Pumpkin) departed this life on May 11, 2026. He passed away peacefully at his home in Lumberton, North Carolina, following a short illness. Willis was born on December 19,1952, in Lumberton North Carolina to the late Willis Leggett Sr and Marie McKinnion-Leggett.
Growing up Willis spent a great deal of time with his father learning how to repair broken items in people homes and develop skills in painting and plumbing. However his father never allowed him to do electrical work. Willis became known as a hardworking dependable man who could fix almost anything. Throughout his life he worked many jobs, including working at the family neighborhood store.
After attending High School, he begins working as a brick mason. He worked this job for many years refurbishing hotels in many states in the United States. He loved this job because he had the chance to see different citys in the United States. He talked about Kansas City all the time. He really loved this city.
Willis really loved working on his last job which was working part-time at BO's/IGA Grocery Store. He loved the team of people that he worked with John Store manger and Bennie who works in produce.
Willis learned about Christ at an early age attending First Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. E.B Turner. He later rededicated his life to Christ and began his duties as an Usher at McCormick Chapel AME. He really loved being on the Usher ministry. He would walk to church if he didn't have a ride to ensure that he did his assignment.
Willis is survived by his wife Dessie Murray Leggett, one son Willis Lesane one bonus son Tyrone Webb, one grandson Tyquan Lesane and a host of great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Willis Leggett Sr and Marie McKinnon Leggett. His sister Sallie McKinnon Barham, his brothers Tommy Hines, Donald Leggett and Malcolm Hines.
