Mr. William Douglass Thompson

    Mr. William Douglas Thompson of 1714 Maryland Street, Lumberton, NC 28358 transitioned peacefully Sunday, December 13, 2020 in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Lumberton, NC to the late Chafe & Johnnie Lee Love Thompson. He was the fifth oldest child of the family.

     Doug graduated from J.H. Hayswood High School in 1954 where he was very athletic, sports has always been very important in his life, professional, collegiate, high school, or local city teams. He loved supporting his family in any sport, just ask his grands.

    After graduating school, Doug enlisted in the US Army where he served his country noble. Later receiving and honorable discharge, Doug returned home. He later met and married his lovely wife, Berthel McDonald and they had four boys.

     Doug worked a few years for Johnson Drug store then he found employment at an upcoming Manufacture name BF Goodrich where they made tennis shoes. He stayed at Goodrich until they were bought out by Converse Inc. in 1972. Doug held several positions at Converse where he was a very dedicated and loyal employee. At Converse everyone knew and loved Doug Thompson, and he loved them also. He was very quality conscious, he wanted everything to be done right. He never asked an employee to do anything that he wasn't willing to himself. He worked faithfully at Converse until they closed, then he retired.

     Some of his hobbies were shooting the breeze with the guys, watching sports on TV, attending football games, basketball games, softball games any where his vehicle would carry him in town or out of town most of the time, by himself. Just ask his grands, he was their biggest fan. Fishing was next in line, he just loved throwing those
