Mr. Will (Dunnie) Mitchell Jr. passed away on April 12, 2022. He was a long time member of McCormick Chapel AME Church and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He sang on the young Adult Choir for many years and served as a Trustee. Will loved reading the bible and listening to gospel music. He graduated from South Lumberton High School in 1969 and was a star basketball player. Will also loved competing in dance competitions and was voted as best dancer in his class. After graduating from high school, he attended Robeson Technical College with an Associate degree in carpentry and welding. Will went on to work at New Port News Shipyard as a welder. He continued his welding career in Maxton, NC. Will was a loving father and provider. He was also a devoted son. Will loved watching basketball and football especially the Carolina Panters and the Tarheels.
Dunnie was preceded in death by his father, R.T. Mitchell; grandmother and grandfather, Sam and Ola Hammonds; brothers, James Hammonds, Dr. Tony Mitchell, and sisters, Velma Blue and Leslie Mitchell.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Carol Mitchell; mother, Doretha Hammonds Mitchell; sister, Clarice Wesley (Jeremiah), Susan Mitchell, and sister-in-law Carolyn Mitchell; brothers, Rondy Mitchell, Danny Mitchell, and Tom Mitchell (Dr. Sonja); nieces Sheila Sutton (Darnell), Rhonda Kadjo (Joseph-Israel), Denale Hargrove (Donald), Nanette Palmore (Jamal), Tricia Walker (Ernest), Teresa Mitchell, Stephanie Graham, and Dr. Tomeka Mitchell; nephews, Anthony Mitchell (Sheila), Kevin Mitchell, Gary Mitchell (Miranda), Montizel Hammonds (Angela), Rondy Mitchell, Jr., Jeremiah Wesley, Jr. (Belinda), Robert Marshall II (Tammy), Michael Mitchell, Tom Mitchell, Jr., and a host of other cousins and friends.
