Richard Allen Johnson was born to Ruby Johnson and the Late Morris Butler on December 11, 1976, in Lumberton, North Carolina at Southeastern General Hospital. Due to a devastating car accident, Richard’s life was cut short on October 27, 2023, at Scotland Memorial Hospital at the age of 46.
Richard, affectionately known as Mookie, was the youngest of five children. One brother, Alton Lewis Preceded him in death. He was educated in the Robeson County School system in North Carolina, where he graduated from Fairmont High School. Upon graduation, Richard furthered his education and attended Fayetteville Technical School, where He received a certification in Welding. Richard later received his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Richard was employed by Dwight Harris Trucking Company.
Richard grew up surrounded by love and it showed in his actions. Richard loved spending time with family. He could always be seen wearing that infectious smirky smile that made you instantly smile back. He was a caring, thoughtful, and carefree individual. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. He was a gentle giant. When he was around you, you knew you were safe. He always thought of others first. “To know him was to love him!”
Richard was a lover of antiques and old homes; he found such a fascination with them. He also loved to find new places to eat. He would travel near and far to explore the unique history and delightful places to dine, with his girlfriend Shondelle, along for the ride.
Richard leaves to cherish his loving memories of his Mother, Ruby Lee Johnson (Fairmont, NC), his sisters, Kim Johnson (Fairmont, NC), Shawn (Tony) McKay (Baltimore, MD), Gino (Bruce) Stitch (Philadelphia, PA), and Regina Inman (Atlanta GA). A special friend, Shondelle McNeil, and childhood friends Lamont Page, Larry Moore, Tobby Addison, and Donathan Lee, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
