Mr. Regganiel Murphy, son of the late Willie Mack and Lessie Murphy, was born on November 14, 1939, in Lumberton, NC. He departed this life on August 11, 2021, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. In 1963, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sarah “Coot” Murphy, and to this union ten children were born: Larry, Ronnie, Michael, James, Annette, Regina, Kimberly, Keith, and a set of twins who preceded him in death. Regganiel was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He had five siblings and a grandchild who preceded him in death: Robert Murphy, Willie C. Murphy, Oscar B. Murphy, Elsworth Murphy, Lewis Murphy, and Martae Murphy. Regganiel, also knkown as “Gene Archie” or “the Gentle Giant,” was well-known for his love for fishing and the outdoors. Gene Archie attended Gettyville Elementary up to the 8th grade. He leaves to cherish his memories: his eight children, Larry Murphy (Mia) of Philadephia, PA, Ronnie Murphy of Hopemills, NC, Michael Murphy, Sr., of Orrum, NC, James Murphy (Connie) of Lumberton, NC, Annette Murphy of Hopemills, NC, Regina Gillespie (Darrell) of St. Pauls, NC, Kimberly Murphy of Timmonsville, SC, and Keith Dudley of Hopemills, NC; 16 grandchildren, Jessica, Ayshia, Tesha, Tootney, Red, Moosie, KeeKee, Shyannah, Mikeya, Brianna, Yana, Michael Jr., Ricky Jr., and Jaland; 22 greatgrandchildren; five siblings, Eva, Daree, Caldwell, Kenny, and Curtis Sr.; and two special friends, Willie Baker and Johnny McCrae.
