Mr. Michael Anthony Campbell

     Michael “Soup” Anthony Campbell, 63 of Lumberton transitioned to rest eternally on May 25, 2024, at his home in South Lumberton, NC.

     Michael “Soup” Campbell was born to the late Evelyn Campbell Easton in Lumberton, North Carolina on May 22, 1961. Soup attended and joined First Baptist Church at an early age.  He was a good student and made many lifelong friendships during his years in primary, Jr. high, high school and beyond. Michael attended Lumberton Senior High School in Lumberton, NC. Early in his adult life he worked at Converse and then went on to work in the food service industry. He worked at both Village Station and Village Inn for a number of years. Michael enjoyed his friends and family most in life and he really enjoyed hanging out with his crew(s). Most recently, Soup embarked on a partial retirement from Village Inn and was beginning to enjoy slow mornings and evenings all week long. Now he had not quite succeeded with transitioning into a full retirement and still enjoyed spending time at his place of employment. Soup enjoyed his work and his work family.

     As a person who lived life on his own terms, Soup, had many saying that he recited to many of us in playful banter, “on my own strength.” Sometimes he would affectionately or not so affectionately as “meatball” or his famous saying, “no trouble; no fuss.” Recently, he started saying, “And the beat goes on…”

     Michael “Soup” Campbell is preceded in death by his late mother Evelyn Campbell Easton and grandmother Mable Powell; his brother Eugene (Bo) Campbell; his uncles Curtis Powell, James L. McCall, Henry (Zake) McCall, Charlie J. McCall and Ledell McCall; and by his aunts Mary McCall White, Nettie McCall, and his niece Melody (Renee) Brown. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Arine N. Lowery of Pembroke, NC. Soup leaves behind four cherished sisters Barbara Campbell of Lumberton, NC, Julie Tisdale- Campbell (sister-in-law) of Charlotte, NC, Gwen Barnwell of Fayetteville, NC, and Irma Mizzelle (John) of Fayetteville, NC. He leaves behind four brothers, Gary Campbell (Gwen) of Brunswick, GA, Allen Easton of Charlotte, NC and Joaquin McCall of New York, NY, and Marcus McCall of Raleigh, NC. Michael leaves behind his Aunt Jean McCall of Lumberton, NC.  Soup is survived by loving friends, Eric “Ego” Stevens of Lumberton, NC and Jackie Hammonds of Lumberton, NC. In addition, Soup leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and close family friends that held a special place in his heart.
