Mr. Matthew James Holmes

     Matthew James Holmes departed this life peacefully on April 13th 2025, at the age of 68. Matthew was a gentle soul whose life was a gift to all who had the honor of knowing him. Though he faced unique challenges, Matthew lived fully — with love, humor, and a spirit that reminded us of the beauty in simplicity and kindness.

    Matthew found joy in the simple things. He loved riding around town. He also looked forward to his daily routine, which included going to the "workshop" with Tammy, his worker for 20 years. He made the most of each day, creating connections and enjoying the company of others.

    One of Matthew's greatest comforts was listening to the radio. Whether it was music or the sound of familiar voices, it brought him peace and joy.

     Matthew also had a special love for his brother-in-law's, JB, cooking. He especially loved dark meat chicken and could never get enough of it, while vegetables always got pushed around on his plate.

     For over half of his adult life, Matthew was cared for by his devoted sister, Neacie until her death and brother- in-law, JB. Their steady love, patience, and dedication allowed Matthew to live a life full of comfort, routine, and dignity.

    God gave us an angel and now, he's returned home to perfect peace.

    Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Juanita Holmes and his sisters Neacie Boykin and Jackie Pollard.

     He leaves to cherish his memories, sisters: Carolyn Pope of Roseboro NC, Carrie Crawford of District Heights, MD, Clementine (Patrick) Smith of Bunn Level, NC, Ethel (Willie) Jenkins of Philadelphia, PA, Renita Pearce of Philadelphia, PA, and Charlene Dantzler of Harrells, NC; two brothers Roy Lee (Valerie) Holmes Jr. of Warsaw, NC, and Linwood (Edwina) Pollard of Philadelphia, PA, and a brother-in-law, James Boykin of Lumberton, NC. He also leaves two aunts: Margie Prigden of Greenville, NC and Mary Francis Sellers of Harrells, NC and one uncle, Thurman Pridgen of Greenville, NC.
