Mr. Levoid Townsend

Mr. Levoid Townsend Tribute

     Levoid Townsend passed away peacefully at home on the morning of November 4th, 2023.

    During his illness and final days, he was supported by his niece and caregiver, Etta Townsend Rogers. Levoid was born on October 25, 1940, in Robeson County. During his early years, he attended Proctorville High School in Robeson County. He retired from the Sanitary Department in New Jersey. After retiring, he came home to live around his family. Levoid had a great passion for fishing and loved spending time with his family and friends. His kind and generous attitude made him beloved by many. He was a fashionable man, and his nieces even gave him the nickname Rambo because of his fashion style of clothing. Levoid united in Holy Matrimony to Harriett. This union was blessed with two children, Harry Lee and Ruthie.

     Levoid was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Emory James Townsend and Rollie Nicholos Townsend. His wife Harriet Townsend. His Son, Harry Lee Townsend and His daughter Ruthie Townsend. Ten brothers also preceded her in death: Jack Townsend (Martha), Roosevelt Townsend (Reva), Willie Townsend (Louise), Booker Townsend (Lena), Laddie Townsend, Emory Townsend (Anna Margaret), David Townsend (Vernice), Ulysses Townsend (Ada Mae), Gilbert Townsend and Hilbert Townsend. Six sisters preceded him in death: Bessie Smith (Ben), Arnetha McDowell (Thomas “TS”), Mildred Baker (Sylvester), Ruth Bethea (James), Ella Jane and Genora Richardson (Franklin), and his baby Sister who passed away less than 24 hours apart before his death.

    Levoid is survived by his niece and caregiver, Etta Townsend Rogers. His sisters-in-law, Marion Townsend, Effie Lee of Lumberton, NC, and Earnestine Townsend of Virginia Beach, VA. He has a close bond with his nephews and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Special friends who meant a lot to him: Michael and Michael Jr. McKeithan, Travis Townsend, Sam Terry, Perry “Bubba” Ballard, and Lonnie Jones. He had a special bond with Monique Raymond, who he considered a daughter, and Shakaila Duff, his foster daughter whom he helped raise during her early years.
