Mr. Leverne McKinnon Tribute

Mr. Leverne McKinnon 85, of Lumberton, started his journey in this life on May 27th, 1936; and ceased it on January 6th, 2022. Leverne was predeceased by his wife Helen Bethea McKinnon; his father John Wesley McKinnon, his mother Rosie Lee Hicks, a daughter Rosalie Goodman; two sons, Leverne McKinnon, and Leon McKinnon; four brothers, John Lewis Mckinnon, Porter Ross McKinnon, Maceo Mckinnon, Melvin McKinnon, and Earl Spencer Mckinnon; and one sister, Esther Lena Mckinnon.

Leverne was wed to the late Helen Bethea McKinnon from this union the couple were blessed with 10 children. Leverne eventually retired from a career as a landscaper, but for most of his life he was a farmer and this was his true passion. After retirement he continued to grow and care for his garden with his late wife family. He was an outgoing person and made many close friends. He loved his family and could make anything into a teachable moment with his particular style of unique wisdom. If his children or grandchildren didn't know something he thought they should, he was in his words "tryin' to learn ya something". He had a soft spot for children and could always be counted on to have sweets like peppermints, Mary Janes, or Orange Slices to hand out. Memories like these are now deeply cherished by his loved ones. The world will not be the same without him.

He is survived by seven sons; Tommy Bethea, Ray Charles McKinnon, Gary (Royce) McKinnon, and Jarell McKinnon all of Lumberton, NC; John (Leona) McKinnon of Greensboro, NC, and Michael McKinnon of Hope Mills. Four daughters JoAnn McKinnon and Natascha Germinor of Lumberton, Lisa (Preston) Smith of Evergreen, and Heather (Leiland) Locklear of Rowland. One brother Daniel David Mckinnon of Lumberton NC. Three sisters; Mae Ford, Louise (Tommy) Leake, Katie (Calvin) Baxter, all of Lumberton N.C. A sister-in-law Valerie Moore of Lumberton. 3 special loved ones Mary Liza Bethea and Louise Stephens both of Lumberton, and Theola Patterson of Greensboro. As well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many other members or his extended family.
