Mr. Larry "Hub" Jones

     Larry “Hub” Jones, age 65, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2019. 

     Larry was born in Lumberton, North Carolina on November 7, 1954.  He attended Robeson County Public Schools and graduated from Orrum High School in 1973.  After high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country for four years.  During his military career he was stationed in Germany and Columbus, GA.  After his time in the military, he returned to Lumberton and continued his education at Robeson Community College where he received a certification in auto and diesel mechanics and met his lifelong friend and brother, John Barnes.

     His work history included Converse, Oakwood Mobile Homes and Jensen Manufacturing.  Larry went on to complete truck driving school where received his Class A CDL license and found a job he loved.  He went on to have a successful 30 year career as an over the road truck driver. This afforded him the opportunity to see the country visiting 48 of the 50 states.  

     Larry enjoyed watching all types of sports, his favorite teams were UNC “Tarheels” and the Washington “Redskins”.  Larry was known for his sense of humor, contagious laughter and long conversations.  Anyone who has spent any time around him, knew that he always had a story, joke, jab or a one liner.  If his name showed up on your caller ID, be prepared to set aside 30 minutes to an hour because he loved to talk.

     He is survived by his children, Michelle Johnson (Tomell) of Navarre, FL, Kiara Jones of Minneapolis, MN, Larry Jones and Shaun Jones of Lumberton, NC and Layette Jones of Orange, NJ.  He is also survived by two sisters – Edna Townsend and Alice Faye Jones; three brothers – Ronald Jones, Jerry Jones and Cameron Jones.  Larry has five grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

    He is preceded in death by his parents Ophelia and Major Jones Jr., his brother Bob Jones and his sister Joann Bethea.
