Larry Dewey Horne, was born August 6, 1949 in Elizabethtown North Carolina to the late Esau Horne, Jr. and the late Nettie Van Horne. Larry the eldest of the couple’s three sons, attended Spaulding Monroe where he was active in sports and graduated in 1967. Larry worked at Grief Brothers in Bladenboro for many years, until he became owner and operator of L&H Masonry. Larry had a revere for cooking, often cooking for family and friends. He was most known in the community for cooking his infamous chicken and rice. Larry enjoyed going to the race track and watching the races on television. He loved old western shows and movies, cartoons, and his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Win or lose, Larry faithful stood by his team and whenever possible would wear his Dallas Cowboy hat.
Larry enjoyed his life and lived it to the fullest. In recent years, his health limited his coming and going, but he remained steadfast and enjoyed every moment of life with his loving wife Edna, his children, grandchildren, and with friends and family. Larry gave his life to Christ and received the holy ghost as a faithful member of the New Covenant Assembly in Christ Jesus in Dillion, South Carolina.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, younger brothers Esau Horne and Kenny Horne and his loving wife Edna Horne.
Left to cherish is memory are his four children, Stephanie Horne of Clarkton North Carolina, Elisha (Marcus) McGirt of Fairmont North Carolina, Larry (Devon) Horne, Jr. of Lumberton North Carolina, and TeShayla Horne-Oxendine (Kevin McDowell) of Charlotte North Carolina; half-brother Glen Gowens of Greensboro North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Jerry) McMillian of Rowland North Carolina, Betty (Elisha) Alford of St. Pauls North Carolina, and Diane (Johnny) Thompson of Lumberton, North Carolina. A host of nieces and nephews, along with a close friend Elder Randy Watson and other friends and family.
