Mr. Joseph Spears Sr., son of the late Julius and Florence Spears was born on September 30, 1947, in Dillion, South Carolina. He was called to rest on August 22, 2025 at home in Orrum, North Carolina.
He farmed with Dan Lewis farm Inc. for many years until retirement. He loved working in the yard and spending time with his great-grandchildren. WWE Raw was must on Monday night and western show daily. He had a love for old school cars and old gospel music.
He is preceded in death by parents, Julius and Florence Spears, two brothers, Tommie McLain and M.C. Spears, two sisters, Lula Mae Patterson and Ann Nealy.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his wife of fifty-six years Mary Alice Spears of the home, one son, Joseph Spears Jr. (Sharon) of Fairmont, NC; three daughters, Toni Spears of Orrum, NC; Angela Townsend (Tracy) of Fairmont, NC; and Chowan Bethea (Keith) of Myrtle Beach, SC; one brother, Junior Spears of Fairmont, NC; two sisters, Ethel Mae Taylor (Charles) of Charlotte, NC; and Maggie Spears of Fairmont, NC; eleven grandchildren, Tanorya, Tiera, Te’kaya, Shanequa, Honesty, Zandra, Danmeon, Davonte, Deanna, Dorian, and Dondre, great-grandchildren, Da’shiyah, Tamaury, Tayon, Tyrell, Nolan, Messiah, Kaylee, Legend, Divine, and Markel, three brother-in-laws, Henry Smith of Philadelphia, PA; Wardell Townsend of Philadelphia, PA; and Bennie Smith Jr. (Doris) of Rocky Mount, NC; three sister-in-laws, Dorothy Poellnitz of Pottsburg, PA; Etta Rogers of Fairmont, NC; and Shirley Jackson(Daniel) of Fairmont, NC; three godchildren, Marcus Townsend, Daniel Kelly, and Shakela Arnette, and a host of nieces and nephews, special friends, Dan and Sheila Lewis, Kendrick Lowery, Gary Walters, and Michael Barnes.
