Mr. Joe McCollum Jr.

Mr. Joe McCollum, Jr., age 47, of Elizabethtown, North Carolina departed this life unto life
everlasting on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Affectionately known as "Oz" to all that knew and loved
him. Joe was the second of three children born to the union of his parents, the late Joe McCollum,
Sr., and Myrtle Joyce Brayboy in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was born on November 28, 1973,
and departed this life into eternity on October 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones
thereby completing his 47-year journey. As difficult as it is to accept Joe is no longer being present
physically, all can find solace in knowing that God promised to wipe away all tears from his family's
eyes, as they continue to cope with a missing link in their family's chain.
Mr. McCollum was preceded in death by his father, Joe McCollum Sr., a sister, Joyce Ann Jones,
paternal grandparents, Clarence McCollum and Mable Worley, maternal grandparents, David
Smith, Sr. and Annie Mae-Smith Flowers, Uncles, Jessie and Preston, and his aunt Rosetta.
Mr. Joe McCollum Jr. gave his life to the lord at a young age. He graduated from Fairmont High
School as a member of the Class of 1993, and went on to further his education in Winston Salem,
NC. Joe was a very special person to all who knew him. He loved kids and spending time with his
family and friends. He never met a stranger. Joe had an outgoing spirit about himself that didn't
allow him to let nothing get in the way of doing the things that he loved. In the latter part of his life,
traveling became his new passion. He enjoyed visiting and seeing the wonders of the world with his
loving companion, and taking care of his dogs; Diamond, Ruby, Platinum, and Little Bit.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a special friend and caregiver William K. Johnston Jr. of the
home, his mother Ms. Myrtle Joyce Brayboy (Lawrence) of Fairmont NC, His brother Travis Gentle
McCollum (Dakota) of Fairmont NC, His step-sister Erica Lowery of Lumberton NC, Aunts, Polly Page
(Michael), Nancy Smith both of Fairmont NC, Geraldine Ruffin (Earl) of New Jersey, Mary Lee McRae
of Fairmont NC, Fannie Lee (Edward) of New York, and Marjorie Poe (Jack) of Laurinburg NC,
Uncles, David Smith Jr. (Sarah) of Sumpter SC, and Charles Smith (Alberta) of Fairmont NC, a great
aunt Dorothy Grace Taylor aka Aunt Dot of Fairmont NC, a brother-in-law Dennis Jones of Fairmont
NC , One Niece Tkeyah Jones, Two nephews Dennis Jones Jr., Dakeem Jones Sr. (Akeia) all of
Fairmont NC, One great niece E'moni Jones and One Great Nephew Dakeem Jones Jr. both of
Fairmont NC. Best friends Danielle Shereese Moody, Mary Johnston-McMillian, and Yonte Spencer,
as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
