Mr. Jesse Lee Peterson, 72, of Lumberton, passed away August 17, 2020. Jesse Lee Peterson departed his earthly life on Monday, August 17, 2020 in Oxford, NC. Jesse,
was born on October 25, 1947 in Texarkana, AR to Calthryn T. and Ernest Peterson (whom
proceeded him in death). When Jesse was 2 years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, CA. In
1989, he settled in Lumberton, NC. Jesse loved to do many things like traveling, fishing,
cooking, playing cards, chess, horseshoes and Domino's. Most of all he loved entertaining
guests. He was very sociable and never met a stranger. He was better known as Uncle Jesse,
to so many. He made people laugh uncontrollably. He was an amazing story teller. And also full
of wisdom. He was honest and straightforward. What we saw in him, is definitely what we got.
He was compassionate, loving, and caring. He served in the U.S. Army. His health started to
decline in 2014. We are so grateful for the time and space, we shared with our outstanding
husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Jo Ann Peterson-Robinson, 2 sons and 2
daughters. Jesse Nekia Peterson from Los Angeles, CA. Kofi Jeron Robinson from Mount
Vernon, NY. Jade Lea Peterson (Michael) from Lumberton, NC. Jo Leatha Peterson-Umoren
(Daniel) from Lumberton, NC. He was the eldest of 10 children. He had 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
Charles Peterson, Calvin Peterson (whom proceeded him in death), Wayne Peterson-wife
Victoria Peterson (Wayne whom proceeded him in death), Richard Mcvay (Christine), Sharon
Miano (Peter), Leslie Phelps, Jacqueline Brown (Ronald), Donald Phelps, and Lisa Cox
(Tyrone), all of California. His Sister In-law Marian E. Ellis Robinson from Lumberton, NC. And a
very special nephew, Tapfuma Mitchell from Los Angeles, CA. Also, a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, God children, and friends.
