“I Just Stopped By On My Way Home”
Grieving is a process where we keep reflecting and learning about our own lives as we remember those we have loved and lost. We’re here today to cherish the Precious memories of our dearly beloved Mr. James Watson, Jr. If He could speak to you today, we imagine this is how he would reflect back over his life with Lee Williams (his favorite gospel artist) singing in the background “I Just Stopped By On My Way Home”!!
I, James Watson Jr., Just stopped by as the 2nd of 9 children born to Thelma Clyburn Watson and James A. Watson Sr. on May 31, 1945 in Robeson County, N.C. We were a close-knit Christian family, who in our early years worshiped at Aaron Swamp Missionary Baptist Church, and participated in various ministries and organizations. Eventually I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at an early age. It was here at Aaron Swamp that I first met my future wife.
I Just Stopped By The Public Schools of Robeson County and graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1963. My future wife was in the corner of my eye even during high school as she was a freshman at the time. But I had a ram in the bush, I had my younger brother Travis keep an eye on her until she became of age to date.
I Just Stopped By and entered into holy Matrimony with my church member and former high school mate, Dorothy Lee Moore Watson on April 21, 1967. We enjoyed married life and eventually had 3 sons (James, Terrance and Charles) and one beautiful granddaughter - The Apple of My Eye, (Channing Watson). My life was dedicated to loving my family, friends, church family and community folk. I Pray that the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me. My Church meant the world to me as it allowed me to grow in the knowledge and admonition of Our God. I served in the choirs at Aaron Swamp; served on the Usher board; assisted the Trustees in caring for the church as a carpenter, plumber, go to person for miscellaneous duties and repairs. I was honored to become an Ordained Deacon as well. I was known to speak my mind in the life of the church and share with enthusiasm the Baptist doctrine and by-laws.
I, James Watson Jr., Just Stopped by the U. S. Army in 1969 where I faithfully served my country for 21 years. My tours of duty included being stationed at Ft. Bragg NC, Ft. Lewis Washington, Ft. Gordon Georgia, Vietnam and Germany. I retired as a Sergeant First Class.
JESUS STOPPED BY a little after 3 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022 along with the angels to carry me home. As my dear nephew, Henderick Watson sat by my bedside at Duke Hospital, I left this earthly body to be present with The Lord.
I, James Watson, Jr. Just Stopped By On My Way Home to Thank All of You for being such an important part of My Life. I wanted to stay, but it was time for me to say ‘Goodbye World”. “I’ve Fought a Good Fight and now I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”. 2 Tim. 4:7-8. Keep Smiling, Keep Loving, Keep Sharing, Keep Serving, Keep Working, Keep Praising and Praying Until you are on your way home!
