Mr. James Lee Cassidy was born on December 14, 1947 in Lumberton, North Carolina to Mr. Maryland and Gertrude Cassidy. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at WakeMed Hospital, Raleigh, North Carolina.
He attended the Lumberton City Schools and graduated from Lumberton Junior/Senior High School in 1966. After graduation, he left Lumberton to attend North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. After two years at NCCU, he decided to come back home to Lumberton and became an employee at Gerber Childrenswear. He was employed there for 27 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lumberton, North Carolina.
James was a friendly and quiet individual who enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his family and friends and visiting, mainly sitting out in the yard conversing. He was around for everyone’s birthday, graduation, special occasion and any family gathering. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because he loved going to see family and friends that were either in Lumberton or that had come home to visit. He enjoyed circling everyone’s homes and sitting for a while. He loved watching TV and sports, especially football. His two favorite channels were ESPN and BET. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Alabama fan.
James was preceded in death by his father, Maryland Cassidy, his mother, Gertrude Hawkins Cassidy, his brother, Maryland Cassidy, Jr and his uncle James Cassidy. He was also preceded in death by two lifelong friends, Mr. Leander (Fleet) McCall, Jr. and Mr. Ronald Fletcher.
James leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and caring niece, Erica C. Barnhill of Raleigh, North Carolina, his loving sister, Elouise DuBose Baker of Philadelphia, PA; his caring niece, Cassandra Baker Jackson (John L. Jackson, Jr.) of Darby, PA; two great nieces, Leandra Jackson and LeBrina Jackson Gedeus (Maxwell) of Philadelphia, PA; two great-great nephews, Adrina Jackson Gedeus and Amari Jaylen Gedeus of Philadelphia, PA; one sister in-love, Adele Cassidy of Newark, NJ; three caring ladies, Ms. Mary Odum, Ms. Frankie Powell and Edith Hammonds, all of Lumberton, NC; a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
