Mr. Garry Bracey Tribute

Garry Bracey, affectionately known as “Lucky Charm” by his
classmates and friends in the community, departed this life on
February 16, 2024. Fred Chatman gave Garry the name “Charm” due to
his natural born charisma and smooth demeanor. Gabe West
lengthened the name to “Lucky Charm” saying Garry was the luckiest
guy in school to date the most popular young ladies.

Garry was born in Lumberton, North Carolina on September 10,1954 to
the late Dan Bracey Sr and the late Edna B. McComb. He was educated
in the Lumberton City School System where he formed strong bonds
with his classmates that remained intact. After high school, Garry
enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country
with great pride. Upon completing his service in the military, he moved
to the District of Columbia and resided there many years before
returning to North Carolina. All who knew him, knew he was a
craftsman with his hands. Restoring antique furniture, fixing and
putting things together gave him great joy; however, his passion was
behind the paint brush. Painting the exterior and interior of homes was
medicine for his soul. The meticulousness of his work set a standard
for the perfectionism in his craft.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents Dan Bracey Sr. and Edna B.
McComb; his stepfather, Cleveland McComb I; his sister, Edna Ruth
Pittman; his grandparents, Nina and George Baldwin, and Mack and
Mamie Bracey who were all pivotal influences in his upbringing. Garry
will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory:
his children Kodi McQueen of Shemya, Alaska, Byron Mitchell and Asia
Bracey of Lumberton, N.C. and Erica McLaurin of Fayetteville, N.C., four
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his siblings, Barbara
Bracey of Lumberton, NC., Dan Bracey Jr. of Hope Mills, N.C., Tony
Bracey of Durham, N.C., Jean Best(Reginald) of Charlotte, N.C, Lisa
McCombs of Raleigh, N.C., Cleveland McComb II(Regina) of
McDonough, Georgia, and Erika McComb of Lumberton, N.C.; two
aunts, Ruby McCallum(Andrew) of Maryland, and Emma Leeth of
Huntsville, Al; one uncle, Louis Bracey of Melbourne, Fl.; a blessing of
nieces and nephews dear to his heart; his many cousins: two especially
close, Rosalyn Dockery and June Thompson; his devoted friends
Melissa Carter, Jodie McCrae, and Herbie McKellar; and a host of other
relatives and friends.
