Mr. Eddie Tillman Barnes, 67, of Fairmont passed away July 26, 2020 at his residence.
Eddie Tillman Barnes was born on May 4, 1953, to the late Jessie Thompson and Howard Barnes in Lumberton, NC, and departed this life early Sunday morning July 26, 2020, surrounded by his family at home. Eddie attended Proctorville School in Proctorville, NC. On November 25, 1971, Eddie married Annie Lois Jackson and to this union four children were born. Eddie joined the US Army in May 1973 and served for 2 1/2 years. Upon return, Eddie attended the Robeson Community College where he received a certificate in welding. Upon completion, Eddie moved to Newport News, VA, and was immediately hired by the Newport News Ship Building, where he worked for over 20 years along with working for the Hampton Road Transit. Eddie joined Miracle Temple Baptist Church and served in several positions while there. He was a member of the Newport News 131 Scottish Rites Masonic Lodge. After retiring, Eddie was the owner/operator of Barnes & Co Trucking Co. In 2005, Eddie and Annie Lois moved to Fairmont, NC, where they enjoyed retirement and after a brief illness, she preceded him in death March 2010. Eddie eventually moved to Charlotte, NC, where he attended Central Piedmont College for Advanced Welding. On March 15, 2014, Eddie married A. Hazel Carmichael. In 2015 they joined Genesis Outreach Deliverance Ministries in Lumberton, NC. Eddie continued to drive trucks part time and as he called himself “CEO” of Emmanuel’s Sewing and Alterations with his wife, A. Hazel Carmichael-Barnes.
Eddie enjoyed life to the fullness. He loved spending time with his family and friends, riding his Harley Davison, and was a member of the Black Knights Motorcycle Club. He absolutely loved dancing, fishing, and was always the life of the party! He was a great influence towards his family and the community.
After being diagnosed with brain tumors in 2017, Eddie continued to enjoy life and he never let it get him down. He never complained. He always kept pushing even when he probably did not feel like it.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Hazel of the home, seven children: Derrick T. (Lisa) Barnes; Kenya (Samuel) Charity all of Hampton, VA; Shenna (Jamie) Hill of Chester, VA; Kevin (Skye) Barnes of Tampa, FL; Candice L Barnes of Atlanta, GA; Lequisha Lesane of Summerville, SC; Kavonna (Michael) Smith of Lumberton, NC. One daughter who preceded him in death, Rashad Lesane Patton. Two brothers Archie Barnes of Fairmont, NC; Anthony (Carolyn) Barnes of Hope Mills, NC; Seven sisters, Shelby (Arthur) Foy, Glenda Gilchrist both of Lumberton, NC; Marcia Nealy of Proctorville, NC; Patricia Barnes of Pembroke, NC;
Cassandra Barnes of Woodbridge, VA; Lisa Carol Barnes-Hector of Ontario, Canada and Rita F Watson of Fairmont, NC. Three siblings that preceded him in death-Franklin Barnes, Jack Barnes, and Stephanie Barnes McDonald, Twenty-four grandchildren; Three great grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Eddie will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
