Mr. Douglas Bethea Jr. (Shorty) age 74 of Fairmont, NC passed away Monday, Jun 5, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Bethea was born in Robeson County, NC to the late Deacon Douglas Bethea Sr. and Deaconess Mary McRae Bethea. He attended the Public Schools of Robeson County. He worked on the farm with his parents and siblings until he wanted a better life so he joined The United States Marine Corp where he served in the Vietnam War. He retired from the Marines and joined the United States Army. After leaving the Army he decided he would begin working with New Jersey Foundry 2 Main Street Little Falls, NJ from 1980—1982. His next job was with Brantley Bro. Moving & Storage 2 Frelinghusen Ave. Newark, NJ 07102, 1976—1978. Next he worked with Bill –Bar Trucking 1 Jacobus Ave. South Kearney, NJ from 1975-1976. He worked with IMF 120 Tyler St. Port Newark, NJ, 07112 1995—1996. He worked with Service Refrigeration Transport PO Box 218 Newark, NJ 07102, 1982—1995, after trying many Jobs. Douglas health began to fell him so he decided it was time for him to return home to his roots in NC. Sadly on June 5, 2023, The Lord called him home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Jerri McRae, Ellen Marie Walker, Philomena Fulmore, and Viva Baker, five brothers, Woodrow Johnson, Edward, Roscoe, Pat Sr. and Charles Bethea Sr., grandparents, Eddie and Golden Emma McRae and Eula Gaddy McRae, two nephews, Eric Bethea and Sergeant Perry D. McRae.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Mozell Elizabeth Bethea of the home, four daughters, Jessica Elizabeth Bethea of the home, Shalisa Bethea (Joseph) of Baltimore, MD, Yoko Bethea of California and Akio Bethea (Ben) of GA, two sons, Fredrick Douglas and Kerry Bethea (Shanelle) of Baltimore, MD, two sisters, Elizabeth Bethea Page and Mary Frances Moody (Jack) both of Fairmont, NC, three brothers, Roger Bethea (Connie) of Fairmont, NC, Larry McRae (Linda) of Chadbourn, NC and James “Nick” Graham of Tabor City, NC, grandchildren, Tom Wesley Owens VI, Benjamin Minoru Owens and Samantha Haverly all of GA, Wahkeen Bethea, Maurice Bethea, Markeen Phillips Jr., Michael Neal, Shayonna Bethea, Kerry Bethea and Louquan Bethea all of Baltimore, MD, one uncle, Algene McRae of Lumberton, NC, three aunts, Minister Emma McKellar of Lumberton, NC and Rachel and Ruby McRae both of Washington, DC, one brother-in-law, Henry Baker of Rowland, NC, one sister-in-law, Betty L. Bethea of Rowland, NC, one special nephew, Jack Moody Jr. of Fairmont, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends
