Mr. Derrick Lamont McMillan was born on May 25, 1972, in Robeson County to Luke and the late Alice Aretha Moore McMillan. Derrick peacefully transitioned on November 22, 2023 at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Derrick was educated in the Robeson County Public School System. Derrick “Pop Belly” as he was lovingly called was a hard worker. He was a jack of all trades. At an early age his love for cars and buildings would lead him in his career paths of demonstrating his mechanical and carpentry skills. Derrick was the family and friends go to guy when things needed to be repaired. He was always ready and willing to help anyway possible. Derrick was employed with D and A Construction LLC.
Derrick was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He would go back and forth all day about Dem Boyz. Derrick loved spending time at the beach with his wife, Marquete; family and friends. He loved going to the race tracks and playing cards. Derrick was a good cook. He loved cooking meals that his grandma Vina taught him when he was young.
Derrick loved his wife Marqueta whom he always referred to her as “ My wife” when talking to others. He loved his children, grands and family he was always chasing the money bag in order to provide for them.
Family was very important to Derrick. He looked forward to family gatherings and just being around his children. Derrick showed compassion to all. He was willing to give people a second chance as others had done for him. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Derrick was preceded in death by his mother Alice Aretha Moore McMillan, daughter Krizana Blue, sister Dominca McMillan; grandparents Vina Moore, Charlie Moore, Harvey Faulk, Everlena McMillan, Catherleen Faulk, and Luke McMillan Sr; two aunts Brenda McLellan and Christine McMillan; cousin James “Junebug” Gaddy.
Derrick’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Marqueta McMillan; father, Luke McMillan; children, Derrick McMillan Jr. Quantress (Brittney) Blue, Nyketra Blue, Demark Blue, Zymeek McMillan, Kennedy McMillan and Dakyla McMillan; stepchildren, Keona (Mike) Freeman, Jaiden Finlea and Breylin Finklea, grandchildren; Detorian, Stella, Demont, Lamont, Aaliyah, Nolan, Kai, Kayden, Jair, and Kaaci, sister, Hope McMillan Blackman, brother Donald Lamont McMillan, siser-in-law, Yolonda Caroway, his aunts, Bessie Thompson (Aunt Bet), Patricia Moore (Aunt Trisha), Antionetta Moore (Aunt Buffy), uncle Donald Moore (Uncle Duck) bonus aunts, Vilene Mclean (nanny) and Carolyn Washington, great-aunt Lena Katherine (Aunt Lena Cat) McMillan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Derrick showed compassion to all; he was willing to give people a second chance as others had done for him. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
