Mr. Darrell McKiver

     Mr. Darrell McKiver was born on November 19, 1958 in White Oak, North Carolina to the late Dennis and Joyce Louretha Richardson-McKiver. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday January 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.   

     Mr. McKiver attended Tar Heel High School, where he excelled in athletics, especially basketball and formed lifelong friendships. Mr. McKiver began his career working at West Point-Pepperell, Inc. where he was eventually promoted into a leadership role. Darrell moved to Lumberton in 1983 where he met and married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Dockery, who affectionately called him “Big Daddy”. He would later pursue entrepreneurial endeavors by starting Destiny     Commercial Cleaning Service, which covered Robeson County and surrounding areas.

      In later years, his passion for sports expanded to the golf field, where he could be found playing the front nine or back nine every week. Mr. McKiver was a community champion and used his love for golf to     inspire the next generation of young golfers, by starting the golf        ministry at First Baptist Church, Lumberton, NC. Mr. Darrell was a member of the Security Team, and enjoyed early morning service, as well as supporting the Layman League. As a community champion, he      quietly visited the sick, was willing to give his last to anyone in need, eagerly assisted the elderly, and on a daily cadence checked in to ensure others were well, thus making him the Neighborhood Watchman.

      Mr. McKiver is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Gwendolyn Dockery-McKiver; his children, Yasmine McKiver of Charlotte, NC,    Joyden McKiver-Kimpala (Ado) of Charlotte, NC and LeeAnn  McKiver of Rockhill, SC; his nephew/son Barrington Dockery (Jackie) of Hope Mills, NC; his bonus babies, Liliane and Nash; his siblings, Lajune Jessup, Daisy Lloyd, Annette McKiver, Delois Lewis, Daphne McKoy and Dennis McKiver Jr. all of White Oak, NC, Peggy Evans Of Charlotte, NC; his aunts Geraldine Battle of Raleigh, NC and     Mildred Richardson of New York, NY; sisters-in-law, Rosalind    Dockery (Belton) of Lumberton, NC, Renee Williams of Durham, NC; brother-in-law, James E. Dockery Jr. (Wanda) of Hope Mills, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made for the establishment of The Darrell McKiver Memorial Golf Scholarship Fund. Mr. McKiver's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will be cherished forever.
