Cleaster Durant, son of the late Matthew Durant and Delessie Cade Durant, was born January
7, 1943, Lumberton, NC. He departed this life on November 14, 2021 at Southeastern Hospice
House in Lumberton, NC.
At an early age, Cleaster joined Spring Branch Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful life-
long member.
Cleaster was employed by WestPoint Pepperell plant where he worked as a dye operator for 30
years. Once he retired, he worked part-time for the city of Fairmont. His hobbies included
working on cars. He was a people person, and was most happy when he was around family &
friends. He immensely enjoyed oldies but goodies music, and watching old westerns.
Cleaster leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Linda Lennon Durant of Fairmont, NC; his son,
Linwood (Gale) Durant of Lumberton, NC; his daughter, Sheila (Lynn) D. Porchèr of Rocky
Mount, NC; his daughter, Kisha Durant Wilson of Houston, TX; one honorary son, Dwayne
Thompson, of Daytona Beach, FL; one sister, Marzella D. Worley (Harold) of Fayetteville, NC;
one brother, Lester J. Durant of Garner, NC; four sisters-in-law Lela G. Durant of Rocky Mount,
NC; Ella Durant of Baltimore, MD; Brenda McQueen (Dexter) of Fairmont, NC; & Glenda Davis
of Chicago, IL; three brothers-in law Otis Mackey of Philadelphia, PA; Howard Lennon of
Fairmont, NC & Willis Lennon of Atlanta, GA; 6 grandchildren, Jamel Hunt, TaQuanda Mitchell,
Lynn Porchèr Jr., Tierra Durant, Quentin Porchèr, & Richard Wilson Jr.; 5 great grandchildren
(Jamiah, Matthew, Charles, Jamel Jr., & Peyton); a special friend, Albert Worley; and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & friends.
