Evangelist Saundra Lee Marcelle Thompson, a devoted servant of God, loving mother, and gifted cook, passed away on March 31, 2026, at MUSC Health Florence Regional Hospital in Florence, South Carolina.
Saundra was born February 22, 1947, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late James Marcelle and Fannie Campbell. After the loss of her father when she was six, the family relocated to Washington, D.C., where her mother later married Charles Campbell. Saundra graduated high school in Washington, D.C., earned an associate degree in education, and went on to complete both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education.
In 1976 she married William Robert Thompson Sr; from their union she was blessed with one son. Saundra loved the Lord from an early age and accepted the call to ministry at Highway Holiness Church in Washington, D.C. She later became a faithful member of Lamb of God Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Lloyd Edwards. After the death of her husband, she and her son moved to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1993 and joined Love Faith and Deliverance Holiness Church under Elder David Lee Hatchet and Founder Bishop Jimmy Smith.
Saundra was known for her warm hospitality and remarkable cooking; family holidays were brightened by her lovingly prepared meals. She also loved to sing and maintained a deep, prayerful relationship with God throughout her life. She often shared testimony of how prayer transformed her family’s life, including her determined prayers for her son during difficult times.
In May 2003 she moved to Lumberton, North Carolina, where she became a member of Greater Higher Grounds Pentecostal Holiness Church of Deliverance, Inc. where the Pastor & Founder is Apostle Clifton Lee Campbell. June of the same year her faith in God proved itself and her only son received Christ in his life in this ministry. She was so happy she said it was confirmation she was in the right ministry. Saundra served faithfully as an Evangelist until her health failed.
Saundra was preceded in death by her great granddaughter Legacy Alford, a special nephew Toney Meadows (Tucson), a special Aunt Lillian Fulp and her Godson, Andrew Smith El.
