Dr. Victor Alford Tribute

Dr. Victor L. Alford, affectionately known to friends and family as "Vic," passed away on the morning of July 14, 2024. Born on October 12, 1955, he was the only child of Mabel Alford, whose love and guidance shaped his life.

Throughout his life, Victor was deeply devoted to his faith and community. He was a dedicated member of Mill Branch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. In 1999, he was ordained as a minister, inspiring countless individuals with his passion for spreading the Word. Many people sought guidance and solace through his teachings.

Victor's personal life was just as fulfilling. He married Ruth Page in 1988, and their union lasted for 36 years until his passing. He cherished his family and friends, often brightening their days with his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. Music was another great joy in his life, with Parliament and the Crusaders being among his favorite acts to listen to.

Victor's professional accomplishments were remarkable. He became the first black highway vendor in Robeson County and worked tirelessly in Washington D.C. to advocate for the rights of visually impaired individuals. His tireless efforts helped pave the way for the ADA Act of 1990. Additionally, he was honored as the first black visually impaired minister to be ordained through the Lumber River Baptist Association. Victor's education was marked by academic excellence, as he earned his doctorate from Judah Bible College under Bishop Paul McDowell and an honorary doctorate from Tri County Bible College under Dr. H.E. Edwards.

Victor's motto, "I lost my sight, but not my vision," reflected his unwavering determination to make a positive impact despite life's challenges.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Alford, and his sister, Margaret Singletary.

Dr. Alford leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Page Alford of Lumberton, NC; two daughters, La Yvonne Taylor-Terry (Monte Terry) of Wake Forest, NC, and Jennifer Page-McGee (China Page-McGee) of Vinton, VA; one son, Emmanuel Stephens of Durham, NC; two sisters, Earnestine Haskins and Williie Mae Robinson, both of Rowland, NC; three grandchildren, Arielle Da Silva, Collin Da Silva, and Malaysia Brown; and a host of family and friends who will deeply miss him.
