Aaron Leige Tribute

God saw you were getting weaker and He whispered, "come and rest." His garden must be beautiful, for He only takes the best. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.

On Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC; Aaron “Scottie” Leige with his niece Brianna Kelly keeping close vigil by his side completed his journey on this earth.

Scottie attended Robeson County Schools while growing up in Lumberton. He studied Culinary Arts at Robeson Community College. He loved bringing home to his mother and family entrees of various foods and desserts that were prepared in class, and sharing stories of his day. He took great pride in the culinary arts and always enjoyed preparing foods for competitive assignments, and working banquets alongside his fellow classmates. He was loved by many, and brought an abundance of laughter, joy and playfulness to everyone he met. He was also known for being the life of every gathering with family and friends. He had an exuberant smile, boisterous personality and he was known as one of the Southside’s first millionaires.

A devoted member of Sandy Grove Baptist Church, Scottie gave his life to Christ at an early age. In the past, he served on the Sandy Grove Usher Ministry and was a former member of Sandy Grove’s Gospel and Men’s Choirs. He was truly loved, and adored by his family and friends both at church and home.

He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Charles McLean, Procterville, and Rosa Lee Leige-Smith of Lumberton; two brothers, Lee Floyd Leige of Lumberton and Charles McLean, Burlington; and one sister, Ethel Rose Wright, Chicago, IL.

Scottie leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Miles Eugene Saulters, Lumberton, NC; four sisters, Missouri Ann Felton and Katherine Wooten, both of Lumberton, Lauraceena Nervita Sanders, Parkton, NC, and Marietta McLean, Burlington, NC; three brothers, Ottis Dale Leige, New Orleans, LA, Charles Lemont Leige, Brooklyn, NY and Michael McLean, Burlington, NC; two aunts, Roberta Sinclair (Tom), Baltimore, MD and Queen Hill (Lewis), Procterville, NC; one great aunt, Vermell S. McCray (the late Aaron), Cross, SC; two beautiful granddaughters, Mileah and Makayla Saulters of Lumberton; a stepfather, Delano Smith of the home; a host of cousins that were loved like siblings; special nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
