Richard McCoy Sr.

      Mr. Richard McCoy, Sr of Fairmont, NC passed away on Monday, July 16 at Southeast Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC. The son of the late Hildred McCoy, he was born on August 13, 1947. He gave his life to Christ on December 11, 1984 and has been a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church beginning as a Trustee, Over the years, he was a member of the Spiritual Choir, Male Choir, Deacon Board and Superintendent of Sunday School.

     After graduating from Proctorville School in Proctorville, NC, he started at Converse in Lumberton, NC for 36 years until the plant closed its doors. After Converse, he took a brief break from work returning to school at Robeson Community College for a semester before starting at Contempora Fabrics in Lumberton, NC. Richard worked at Contempora for about 15 years and officially retired on April 15, 2018. Richard was truly a man of God and ‘a man among men.’ His smile was infectious to the ones around him and whenever he said, “Everything is lovely” no matter how bad your day was, it seemed that everything will be okay.

    Richard was preceded by his mother Hildred and brothers Calvin, Melvin, Tally, and Johnny.

    He is Survivied by his wife, Peggy L. McCoy, his children, Veronica Hall, Amanda McCoy Stephens, Richard McCoy, Jr (Nikki), and Brock McCoy (Amy), Also surviving are his siblings Larry W. McCollum-Fairmont, NC, Levelle McCoy-Fairmont, NC, Lee-Vernon McCoy (Jerri)-Midland, MI, Harvey McCoy-Fredericksburg, VA, Leander McCoy (Cynthia)-Hope Mills, NC, Ada M. Baxter (Wayne)-Lumberton, NC, Vickie S. Jones-Lumberton, NC, Dwanda K. McCollum-Lumberton, NC, Frances A. Gilchrist (Jerry)-Fairmont, NC, and Gloria Williams (Bruce)-Hope Mills, NC. and a host of other relatives and friends.
