Ms. Mary White 77 of Lumberton transitioned from time to eternal rest on May 1, 2018.
Our beloved Mary L. White was born on October 20, 1940 in Lumberton, NC to the late Lewis and Elease McCall.
She was educated in the public Schools of Robeson County and graduated from J.H. Hayswood High School. After high school, she attended Robeson Technical College where she received her nursing certification. Mary’s loving and caring heart led her to a career as a healthcare practitioner and private nurse.
Mary known to family and friends as “Mert” was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 30 years. She served as a dedicated member of the E.B.Turner Choir where she sang many an inspiring song as a lead vocalist. Mert was a sparkle of life as she walked this earth. She brightened every room that she entered and brought a smile to many a weary face.
Mert is preceded in death by four brothers, James L. McCall, Henry “Zeke” McCall, Charlie McCall, and Curtis Powell as well as her sisters Nettie M. McCall and shall we not forget her sister and the family matriarch Evelyn Easton.
On May 1, 2018, God called home his precious child and told her to rest. There are many left to mourn her passing and to cherish fond memories, her loving sons Vincent D. McCall (daughter-in-law Ana Maria Torres McCall) of New York, New York; Darryl Thompson (daughter-in-law Amanda Lyons Thompson) of Sanford, North Carolina; and Ray Phillip White, Jr. of Lumberton, North Carolina. She leaves to cherish one sister Carrie Curry of Detroit, MI; two brothers Ledell McCall of Lumberton, NC and Lindell McCall of Detroit, MI. Mert was blessed with six grandchildren Darryl Keith Thompson, Jr., Anthony Jamal Thompson, Phillip Andrew Thompson, Justin Goings, Valentino Quran White mother LaTanya Jones, and Noah Jarel McCall as well as three great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and loving relatives and friends.
Mert’s journey was made all the more pleasant because of the bond of her special friends, Peter Pan, Shirley, Vicki and her God daughter Waynetta to name just a few.
