Ms. Lavana Thompson, 97, of Fairmont, transitioned from time to rest eternally on February, 23, 2019. Lavana Thompson, was born November 29, 1921 to the late Daniel Simp and Jessie Stackhouse. She joined First Baptist Church at a very early age. This is where she developed a strong belief in hard
work, education, and the love of God. She demonstrated this when she worked at the elementary
school, during the day, and attending classes at night receiving her General Educational Development
(GED) diploma. She also worked some years at the converse plant, in Lumberton, before settling on a
career as a dietitian at the Wesley Pines Assisted Living Facility in Lumberton, until her retirement. In
retirement, she found joy in reading, decorating her home, and sporting her hats on Sunday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Thompson, two sons Jerry and Richard Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, three daughters, Peggy Green (Frank) of Orangeburg, SC,
Barbara Thompson Williams of Fairmont, NC, Ollie Madison (Simon) of Lumberton NC; three sons,
Leondas Thompson of Fairmont NC, Wilbert Thompson (Linda) Dumfries, VA, Daniel Thompson (Tracey)
of Fayetteville, NC; a daughter-in-law Flora Thompson of Sumter, SC; two brothers, Simp Stackhouse Jr.,
Portsmouth VA, and Jimmy Stackhouse, Lumberton NC; four sisters, Ernestine Green, and Shirley
Crawford of Brooklyn NY, Evelyn Joyce of Chesapeake VA, Annie Durant of Fairmont NC, 31
grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 46 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and
other relatives and friends.
