Our dearest Ellen Lucille Worley was born November 24, 1928 in Saint Pauls, NC to the late Flossie Canady and Arthur McMillan. She departed this earthly life on December 28, 2019 in her home in Lumberton, NC.
She matriculated through the Saint Pauls Public School System. She was dedicated to her family, faith and work. She not only reared her own six children but dutifully helped care for some of her children’s children and devotedly looked after her mother and some of her siblings to their final days. She served faithfully on the nurse’s aide board of First Baptist Church for many years where she was a member. She worked at Converse, retiring after 30 years of service. You could count on your hand the number of days she missed over those years despite never having a driver’s license or learning to drive. She had such a strong work ethic and taught so many valuable life lessons to those around her. After retirement, she continued her pursuit of life at the local flea market which seemed like her favorite pastime, selling her wares and fellowshipping with others on a weekly basis. She was fondly known as Ms. Cotton.
Her eldest son, Larry E. McMillan preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, three daughters, Brenda (Bernard) Stith of Spring Lake, NC; Frances Worley Nicholson of Greensboro, NC; and Gloria Dove of Lumberton, NC; two sons, Grover Worley of Charlotte, NC and William McNeil Jr. of Lumberton, NC; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She fought a good fight, she finished her course and she kept the faith.
