Mr. Willie Jackson McRae Sr. better known as Bill Will was born February 17, 1950 to the late Luther Foster McRae and Hattie Davis McRae in Rowland, NC. He was the seventh child born to that union. He departed this life on October 24, 2018 at 5:20 am at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, NC.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army July 16, 1968. While in the service he earned a degree as a chef. Willie was wounded while serving in Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge on July 31, 1970. He was also a recipient of the Purple Heart. While residing in New Jersey, he was employed at the Veterans Affair Hospital. He also worked with various companies as a tractor trailer driver. He was a very happy, jolly person, and made everybody laugh, and was loved by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Hattie McRae and one brother Franklin Foster McRae.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Sylvia Perry McRae, one son, Willie McRae Jr. of Greenbelt, MD; one brother, Clinton (Lydia) McRae of Mobile, AL; six sisters, Ella James of Roseboro, NC; Bettie McRae, Concencia Gorman, and Dr. Mary McRae all of New York, NY; Annie (James) Mitchell of Maxton, NC; and Edwina (Harry) Newell of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Betty P. Johnson of New York City, and a host of other relatives and friends.
