Mr. Roosevelt Boykins, 85, of Lumberton, transitioned from time to eternal peace on February 9, 2019 at Southeastern Health.
Roosevelt Boykins was born as Lynbung McCants on
January 2,1934 to Lula McCants in Winnsboro SC. Alice
Boykins adopted him at six week old and she lived In
Winnsboro SC. Mrs. Alice passed away a few years later
and he was raised by his adopted sister Susie Boykins
Scott in Asheville, NC. She passed when he was eight
years old. And he was left to be raised by Mrs. Jessie
Thompson. He was good in sport (football and
basketball) in Asheville, NC. He was inducted in there
hall of fame In Asheville. Life was very hard for him at
that time.
At seventeen, SFC Roosevelt Boykins entered the US ARMY April 1,1951 became
QJ Military Police. He played post football Germany and
Fort Bragg. In 1965, he jump into the Dominican
Republic. In 1966 became a Drill Sgt. and in 1968 enter
Vietnam and he retired in April, 30,1971.
He military awards: Legion of Merit, Bronze star w/ V,
Meritorious Service, Army Commendation w/2 silver
Cluster, Army Good Conduct w/2. National Defense,
Vietnam service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry
Cross medal w/ Gold Star, Republic of Vietnam Training
Service, Combat infantryman Badge Army Presidential
Unit Citation, Parachutist Badge, Sr Parachutist Badge,
Master Parachutist Badge. In December 25,1960, he marry Daisy M. Cooper and
raised retired sgt Robert Lee Boykins. Daisy and he
was married over 58 years in till his home going on
February 9, 2019. He left Daisy his wife of 58 years,
Robert (Patricia) son, and his heart, granddaughter
Nicollette.
