Mr. Dwight Powell

      Dwight Bernard Powell, 63 of Lumberton, son of the late William C. Powell and Margaret Powell was born on December 18, 1955.  He departed this earthly life on January 11, 2019. Dwight, “Boot” as he was fondly known to some, lived in Lumberton, NC all his life.  He attended Catholic School and graduated from Lumberton High School.  He attended Shaw University.  He began working at Contempora Fabrics in 1981 and worked faithfully until his death.  He loved sports and was a good cook.  His favorite team was the Washington Redskins.

     Dwight is survived by his wife, Diane Lewis Powell of Lumberton, NC; two daughters, LaCresa Powell Morgan (Derek) of Charlotte, NC and LaShawnda Powell of Concord, NC;  Two step-daughters, Katura Simons (Andrew) of SC and Rolanda Lewis of Lumberton, NC;  One grandson, Dorian Miles Morgan of Charlotte, NC and two step-grandchildren.  Mother and Father-in-law Fred and Lena Benton of Lumberton, NC;  One sister-in law, Cheryl Lewis of Lumberton, NC and 3 brothers-in-law Michael Lewis of Lumberton, John L. Lewis Jr (Ninoska) and Reginald Lewis (Vickie) both of Maryland; Four aunts Gertrude Trower (George) of Capital Heights, MD, Dr. Barbara Ellis of Durham, NC, and Jacquelyn Houston of Lawrenceville, GA and Sidney Houston of Fayetteville, NC;  One childhood friend James D. McNair and three special friends Connie King, Sam Love and James Baxter as well as a host of family and friends.
